Susno to withdraw lawsuit on police observer for defamation case

Former detective chief Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji will withdraw his lawsuit against police observer Bambang Widodo Umar over an alleged defamation case.

Susno's lawyer Johny Situwanda said on Sunday that his client had decided to cancel the lawsuit after thoroughly studying the core of the problem.

“Pak Susno really appreciates Pak Bambang as a critical senior and reformist,” Johny said without further explaining when his client would withdraw the lawsuit now being handled by investigators at the Central Jakarta Police.

On Jan. 4, Susno reported the observer for alleged defamation in connection with statements published in Tempo daily and Forum magazine.

In the daily, Bambang said the police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri would oppose public will should he pick Susno as his deputy chairman. While in the magazine, the University of Indonesia lecturer highlighted Susno's roles in the alleged framing of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputies.

Due to the statements, Susno twice asked the lecturer to apologize to the public to no avail, tempointeraktif.com reported. (ewd)
