Kota Tua bicycle drivers offer unique experience for tourists

Bicycle taxi drivers play a role in Kota Tua (Old City) tourism in Jakarta, giving a unique experience for tourists who would like to see the old colonial buildings and relics up close and personal.

The drivers, stationed in front of the Museum of History in Fatahillah Park, are organized under the supervision of the Management and Development Unit of Kota Tua Area.

An official of the unit, Agus, said Thursday that the drivers were involved in special activities as requested by museum goers.

The unit also gave them Dutch-colonial styled hats for the passengers to wear.

In general all drivers can simultaneously give on-bicycle tours around Kota Tua and act as tourist guides by giving information on the history of many buildings and relics in the area.
