President launches savings movement

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono launched the 'Indonesia Saving Movement' at an international expo event in Jakarta on Saturday in an effort to promote saving habits.

On the occasion, the president launched the "TabunganKu" (My Saving) product at the Jakarta International Expo before representatives of community groups, including children.

"[It] is a new landmark for banks in accommodating people's savings which is expected to help improve their welfare," Yudhoyono said as quoted by Antara.

He said that the launch of the Indonesia Saving Movement was part of the government's pro-people programs.

The Indonesia Saving Movement is a follow up of the "Ayo ke Bank" (Let's Go To The Bank) program launched on January 2008, which was also intended to stimulate the culture saving for improving the welfare of the people.

The launching of the "TabunganKu" product was simultaneously carried out in 41 branches of Bank Indonesia, the central bank, on February 20 and 21, 2010.
