Antasari seeks support from Judicial Commission

Four lawyers for former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar met with Judicial Commission chief Busyro Muqoddas on Wednesday over their client’s murder trial, which they claim to be unfair.

One of the lawyers, Mohammad Assegaf, said he suspected the judges hearing the murder of businessman Nasruddin Zulkarnaen had violated the judicial code of ethics.

"We presented so many witnesses and evidence in favor of our client, but in the verdict, the judges ignored them all," he said.

The South Jakarta District Court on Feb. 11 declared Antasari guilty of masterminding the murder of Nasruddin and sentenced him to 18 years in jail.

Busyro said he would analyze the lawyers’ report before summoning the judges for questioning.

"We will from a team of five experts who will work for one month to analyze the report," he said.

If found guilty, the judges may face administrative sanctions, Busyro said.

"The sanctions range from reprimand to dismissal," he added.
