East Kalimantan villagers hunt man-eating crocodile

Residents of four village along Santan River in Marangakayu district, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, have started raising funds for a mass hunt for a man-eating crocodile.

“We, the residents of Kersik, Santan Ulu, Santang Tengah and Santan Ilir, have agreed to collect voluntary fund to prevent [another crocodile attack] against the residents,” Santan Ulu chief Hery Budianto, told kompas.com Saturday.

Last month, Santa Ulu resident Beddu (55) was attacked and killed by a crocodile while fetching water at the river. Only parts of his body remains were found.

Hery said that Beddu was the sixth victim of the crocodile in the past two years.
