Fire razes dozens of houses in Balikpapan during blackout


Fire razed at least 44 houses in a residential area of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan during a blackout on Tuesday night, but no casualties or injuries have been reported.Witnesses said the fire started at around 9 p.m. in Sidodadi subdistrict, West Balikpapan."It looks like the fire was started by candle lit during the blackout," Fahmi, a local resident, told The Jakarta Post.On Tuesday, almost all areas in Balikpapan were in darkness following blackouts that started in the afternoon and lasted until around 09:30 p.m.Balikpapan deputy mayor Rizal Effendi has visited the site today.
