Golkar, PDI-P unite to vote against bailout policy

In a show of unity, the Golkar Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmakers sang patriotic songs to support each other ahead of a vote to determine the House of Representatives’ final say on the Bank Century bailout.

The politicians were seen entering the House plenary room chanting national song “Maju tak gentar” (Keep moving forward).

The PDI-P legislators also sang a patriotic song that is popular among demonstrators, “Revolusi Sampai Mati” (Revolution till death).

Golkar, the PDI-P, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) have pledged to vote against the November 2008 bailout policy, which they say is flawed.
