Students parade swine in rally against VP

While animals have been banned from rallies in Jakarta, students of 45 University in Makassar paraded a swine as they took to the streets on Tuesday to protest the government’s defense of the Bank Century bailout.

The students led the swine with a picture of Vice President Boediono attached to its back as they marched to the provincial legislative council. One of the students said the animal represented a swine created by a sorcerer to steal other people’s belongings, locally known as babi ngepet.

During the rally the students blockaded the access road to their campus on Jl. Urip Sumoharjo, and set fire to stacks of tires.

The protesters criticized the House of Representatives, which they said had failed to defend the public in the Bank Century case.
