We are not the loser in Century case: Democratic Party

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democratic Party said Monday that it had lost nothing following the recent House of Representatives’ final recommendations on the Bank Century bailout case.

The House said in its final recommendations that the bailout, which ballooned to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million), was flawed and therefore law enforcement institutions had to start probing those responsible, including Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

The Democratic Party was one of the three parties in support of the bailout. Despite that party's position as the dominant bloc in the House, it still lost the final vote to determine the House's final recommendations.

Despite losing the vote, the Democratic Party still considers it has won at least a small victory, its chairman Anas Urbaningrum said.

"The [Democratic Party] is not the loser in the case, because the main purpose of its investigation is to openly reveal the mystery behind it in a transparent and accountable manner so that the people can see the truth, including in the context of the bailout fund disbursement," Anas said on his Facebook account status update Monday.

There was speculation that a large portion of the disbursement was allocated to the Democratic Party to fund Yudhoyono's presidential campaign, however, no solid proof has been found.
