Artalyta, some prisoners get special treatment at prison: Task force

The presidential judicial corruption task force conducted surprised inspections in a number of penitentiaries in Jakarta on Sunday night and found that convicted briber Artalyta Suryani alias Ayin received special treatments, including luxury facilities, reported on Monday.

The task force chairman Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, who is also head of the Presidential Work Unit for Development Monitoring and Control, said that the inspections were conducted following reports from the public and had been coordinated with Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar.

The task force secretary Denny Indrayani said after the inspections: "A number of prisoners get more complete facilities."

Inspections at Artalyta cell at the Pondok Bambu women prison, for example, showed that Artalyta got a special prison cell, which is connected to a luxurious 64-square meter room.

The judicial corruption squad also found special treatment was given to prisoner Liem Marita alias Aling, who got spacious bed, refrigerator, a living room, complete with sofa, tape player and a working table. The squad also found a karaoke room, complete with television.

Denny also said that these prisoners also brought with them their cell-phones.

Denny said that the task force would coordinate with the Justice and Human Right Ministry to follow up the findings. "These prisoners must get the same, narrow cells with the others."
