Fuel truck rams into houses, kills three

A fuel truck rammed into six houses in the remote village of Korossa, in the West Sulawesi regency of Mamuju, killing three people and injuring four, Antara reported Tuesday

Brake failure is suspected to have caused the accident, which also sparked fires.

Wa Baco, 65, Daeng Masiki, 50, and 6-year-old Amu died instantly, while Sinu, 20, and Ahmada, 40, were rushed to Makassar, in South Sulawesi, due to severe burns.

Yulman, 22, and Rustam, 22, suffered minor burn injuries and were admitted to a local hospital.

A witness, Abdul Salam, said the full-tank truck was speeding on the main road connecting Mamuju and the Central Sulawesi capital of Palu the Sunday evening before it stormed into the houses located on the roadside.

“The driver lost control of the truck, possibly due to brake failure,” Abdul told Antara.

Police are detaining the driver for questioning.
