PDI-P stalwart Taufik Kiemas against announcing Century names

Taking a different stance from the rest of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) members on the House of Representatives’ inquiry committee on the Bank Century bailout, Taufik Kiemas, the party's chief patron, says it is unnecessary to mention those responsible for the case.

"Leave the case to the courts. There is no need to mention names," he told reporters at the House in Senayan, South Jakarta, on Monday.

"Let the authorized law enforcers decide who should be held accountable, not the committee," he added.

The bailout, which ballooned tenfold to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million), was authorized by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and then Bank Indonesia Governor Boediono, now the vice president, in November 2008.

Committee members from the Golkar Party, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the PDI-P have said that they will mention the names of Mulyani and Boediono in their final report.
