Roche, Boehringer share licensing, manufacturing

Swiss-based pharmaceuticals company PT Roche Indonesia signed an agreement with German-based PT Boehringer Ingelheim Indonesia on Friday, to share licensing and manufacturing for products at the latter's plant in Bogor, West Java.

“Boehringer Ingelheim Indonesia has a considerable experience in large-scale manufacturing and a well-established reputation in Indonesia,” Roche Indonesia president director Ait-Allah Mejri said Friday.

Boehringer’s plant has an annual production capacity of up to 60 million pack units. The plant, however, will produce only 20 million pack units this year, Boehringer plant director Yanto Sihotang said.

In 2004, Roche sold its pharmaceutical factory in Cimanggis, South Jakarta, when the Roche Group divested its consumer health business to German-based pharmaceutical giant Bayer AG, in 2004, Mejri said.

For the past five years Roche has manufactured its 30 brands of prescription-based products at the PT Bayer Indonesia plant.
